How Mindset, Manifestation, and Strategy Build Thriving Practices
Jun 11, 2026You built this practice to create freedom—freedom to do meaningful work, serve your community, and live on your own terms. But somewhere along the way, the practice started running you instead of the other way around. You're last to get paid, first to feel the stress, and the idea of taking two weeks off feels genuinely laughable.
In this episode from the Thriving Wellness Series, Kendall interviews Shawniel Chamanlal, whose own journey from clinician to CEO of Healing Springs Wellness Center—a thriving multidisciplinary practice offering mental health counseling, nutrition, reiki, and wellness workshops—offers a roadmap from depletion to abundance. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Empowerment Speaker, Life Coach, and author of "Unapologetic Success," Shawniel brings both clinical depth and personal experience to conversations about mindset, manifestation, and sustainable leadership.
The conversation opens by naming the limits wellness entrepreneurs place on themselves. As Shawniel observes: "Our wellness creators sometimes just want to go with the status quo of, 'I want to help people.'... There are times I tell them, just close your eyes and imagine yourself having the practice of your dreams. What does that look like? How does the center help align with your lifestyle?" Her own milestone moment? Going to Greece for two weeks and returning to find her center thriving. "When I went to Greece for two weeks and the center did not burn down, I knew that I had arrived."
The path from martyrdom to abundant leadership begins with recognizing where scarcity thinking still operates. Financial scarcity is common: "We are sometimes told that as practitioners, we're not going to make a lot." But clarity disrupts scarcity. "Clarity comes from knowing what your numbers are... When you have that clarity, you can work backwards. How many team members do I need? What services do I need?" Crucially, Shawniel emphasizes that wellness center owners must include themselves in the financial plan: "Usually we are the last people to get paid. So—this is what my salary is going to be, this is what services I need to have."
On manifestation—a word that can raise eyebrows in business conversations—Shawniel offers a grounding reframe: "Manifesting is goal setting with a spiritual twist." It requires clarity on goals and values, strategic steps, accountability, and what she calls "cheerleaders"—people who hold your vision with you when doubt creeps in.
The second half of the conversation addresses inclusive culture, a topic Shawniel approaches with both personal conviction and practical experience. "Part of it is going back to the vision. What are you creating and who's your audience—not only in the clients you serve, but also the clinicians." At Healing Springs, inclusion isn't a website statement. It shows up in interview questions that filter for shared values, quarterly trainings that build skills collectively, anonymous surveys that create safe channels for feedback, and weekly 20-minute team check-ins focused on belonging and psychological safety.
As Shawniel notes: "Instead of just saying 'you have to be this way,' we are—let's help you learn." This distinction between declaring values and actively developing them separates performative inclusion from genuine culture.
Kendall adds an important insight for practice owners across industries: "A lot of interviewers leave these questions out, and for whatever reason they're afraid to ask them or don't think to ask them. But it really, really matters that we include questions about diversity, inclusion, and our values in general. It not only gives you a chance to hear how someone responds, but it shows them immediately—they actually care about this."
Shawniel will present both workshops at the 2026 retreat. Attendees can expect to walk away with, as she describes it: "Clarity of what you want to create or further develop, and confidence—do you truly believe you can have what you desire?"
If your practice has quietly shrunk from your original vision, or if you've been wondering how to build genuine inclusion beyond the hashtags, this episode offers both inspiration and practical tools for the journey.
